The Duty Free Zone of Iquique is well-known in Chile and overseas thanks to its Shopping Mall. The wide variety of products and brands it offers makes of this mall a very interesting option for investors and retailers and the thousands of consumers that visit it every day. Purchases at the mall made by the Region of Tarapaca's inhabitants (being Iquique its capital) are exempt of customs duties and taxes. These exemptions also apply to purchases by tourists with a cap of US$1218 per person, as long as products purchased are not for resale and are carried in the passenger's personal luggage.
The Zofri Mall provides a complete infrastructure that makes purchases a unique experience by offering over 400 shops plus a food court, coffee shops, call and Internet centers, Money Exchange, Banks, mail services, resting areas, and parking lots. It also includes an area dedicated to the sale of vehicle spare parts and accessories (Zofripart).
The Mall has shown an increased activity receiving over 7.5 million visitors during 2008 and exceeding US$160 million in sales. This commercial center represents the best sales rate of its kind in Chile, reaching and average of UF25 per square meter. The Zofri Mall's success has resulted in 100% occupancy and record-breaking sales year after year, with an average annual growth of 17% which offers quite an attractive business opportunity.
