Chile, a business platform

chile_pais_plataforma

That's what the international campaign slogan says highlighting Chile as one of the best alternatives for companies that are considering the expansion of their business into the South American market.

Positive macroeconomic figures, state-of-the-art technology, qualified human resources, and a consolidated private sector, besides a business management philosophy equal to those of developed nations, place Chile as one of the most stable and modern countries in Latin America, key elements when making investment decisions.

Its export-oriented development has largely contributed to achieving its successful outcomes, thanks to the existing monetary policy, an average inflation of 3% for the last 5 years, number that provides security and that ranks the country as low risk among international investors. This inflation rate is joined by a 2.4% annual growth of the country for the same period, with an annual growth forecast between 3.5% and 4.5% for the coming years, thanks to an economic activity that sustains a general stability and encourages a permanent aperture to new markets. In fact, free market policies, along with the growth fueled by international trade, position Chile as a highly competitive economy. Proof of this is the Annual Competitiveness Report 2002 of the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) that ranked Chile 20 in the general average ranking that included 49 economies.

Another element, proof of the Chilean economy's health, is the international trade agreements undertaken by the country: Economic Agreements (ACE in Spanish) signed with Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela, and the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) signed with Canada, Central America, South Korea, EFTA (European Free Trade Association), United States, Mexico, and the European Union.

According to the estimates of the General Direction of International Economic Relations, through this openness approach, Chile will cover almost 90% of its total foreign trade before the year 2010.
